I am a 25 year old, female with MVP. I do a lot of exercising on the excersise bike. My HR never goes past 145BPM. I try to do lots of cardio because I come from a long line of CAD sufferes and I want to stay healthy.
Should it go higher than that? Or is that good?
Heart rate question?
There is no upper limit to your (or anyone%26#039;s) pulse rate.
The brain and central, nervous system automatically configure the pulse rate and stroke volume (simultaneously) so as to deliver the correct %26#039;supply%26#039; cardiac output to meet %26#039;demand%26#039; cardiac output at the %26quot;optimum%26quot; ratio of the two (cardiac output = pulse rate x stroke volume).
The figures you give are excellent But you ask should you push higher.... Well, there%26#039;s no specific reason why you shouldn%26#039;t, unless your systolic pressure becomes so elevated as to present a hazard to blood vessels in your cardiovascular system, but be realistic. Unless you%26#039;re an athlete it isn%26#039;t necessary, and while opinions vary, there isn%26#039;t much evidence that it will do much good!
I%26#039;d say, if you enjoy it, by all means experiment and push yourself, for short bursts only. I suspect you won%26#039;t get near 200bpm, but do wear a monitor while you%26#039;re experimenting, and if your %26quot;pulse-pressure%26quot; more than doubles (that%26#039;s the %26#039;high%26#039; reading minus the %26#039;low%26#039; reading) then err on the side of caution. It%26#039;s healthier for your pulse rate to take the strain than for your stroke volume to do so, and this (stroke volume) is reflected by your systolic pressure. (Pulse-pressure actually, but this, by extension, reflects systolic.)

Thank you. -I%26#039;ve starred your question as it raises so many interesting thoughts. Report It
Heart rate question?
This is a good heart rate for you while exercising. Around 168-167 should be your high end of the target range for a 25 yr old. (195 bpm is 100% of your maximum)
MVP should not interfere with your exercise program, unless you%26#039;ve been advised otherwise by your doctor.
Hope this helps!
Heart rate question?
i cant understand the abreviations. but there should also be upperbody cardio so in the future when you get old, your unused upper will still be usefull. i think 145 is way to much, i use to do 120 the same as a babies heart when it is born.
Heart rate question?
mitral valve prolapse is a benign condition and normally does not interfere with the functions of heart.
